in a recent interview with Metro, Atwell also discussed reprising the character in the upcoming sequel to The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She was said to feature in only one flashback scene, but…
“‘I’ve been working with some stunt coordinators – I get three separate fight scenes,’” she says. “‘The training has been really tough because not only are you learning the moves, you’re also learning the power of the punch so it doesn’t look like you have spaghetti arms. On my first day, they said: “It’s going really well but you don’t have to add your own sound effects…”’
“I’m going to [comic book convention] Comic Con in July,’” she says. “‘I’ve never been before, so I said to the film’s producer: “What is it, like 3,000 people?” He said: “No, try 300,000 people.” They get quite obsessive. When we were filming the first one, Chris Evans went over to do a: “Hi, I’m the next Captain America, nice to meet you” thing and two fans who were dressed up ended up fighting over his seat. One of them stabbed the other with a really sharp pencil.’”
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reported that The Winter Soldier filming will last a total 80 days, with half of the shoot taking place in L.A before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC. Quoting the film’s supervising location manager, “We’re shooting all over Southern California, from the beaches to the mountains.” Filming has already occurred recently in L.A.’s St. Vincent Medical Center, “the basement of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. building on Olympic Boulevard and the Westfield Topanga Shopping Mall in Canoga Park.” There are also noteworthy rumors The Winter Soldier will explore more of vibranium, the unique metal Cap’s shield’s made of.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Maximiliano Hernandez, teased a return to the role of Agent Sitwell and speculation pointed to his reprisal for either The Winter Soldier or ABC’s potential S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. Now, Deadline confirms that Hernandez will indeed be back for the former.
Maximiliano Hernandez took to Twitter to reveal: “So, it’s a much bigger role in a much darker Captain America story. Lots of twists and turns. And lots secrets about the MCU revealed! I can’t say much more or the Marvel cops will revoke my S.H.I.E.L.D. clearance! Trust me you will all freak out in the theatre when all is revealed!”
In “The Winter Soldier” comic book story arc, Jasper Sitwell “works with Nick Fury in regards to the underground activities of Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. During one of the Winter Soldier’s mission, a brainwashed Black Widow was brought into custody at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters; she injured Nick Fury and killed Sitwell before escaping.” However, Hernandez says to expect “new twists” rather than those in Ed Brubaker’s arc.
While an exact shooting date forThe Winter Soldier is hard to pin down at this point (sets are being built in Cleveland but rumors of a delay still persist) it’s generally thought that filming will begin some time this Spring. While discussing his new movie Dominic Cooper briefly touched on the possibility of a Howard Stark flashback cameo in the movie.
It’s rumored that Hayley Atwell will be returning for flashbacks in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, does the same hold true for Dominic Cooper’s Howard Stark?
There was talk of it, and now I don’t know whether I can, which will be really annoying because I loved being part of it. You know, I think it was such an incredible time, and I think — you know the first one — they did such an incredible job of it. So, I will try my hardest to get Stark back into a flashback sequence or some description, but its proving rather difficult in terms of scheduling at the moment.
Latest issue of SFX Magazine will feature an exclusive chat with Kevin Feige, in anticipation ofIron Man 3. Of course, Feige also discusses plans for other Phase Two films:
The Thor film and the Guardians Of The Galaxy film certainly are cosmic. Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space.
I think Iron Man 3 shows the other side of Phase 2, which is delving deeper into the characters. Throwing them on a much more personal journey.
And Captain America will showcase… What’s exciting to me about Cap – sort of about Iron Man 3 too if you look at it – is it’s tonally almost like a different genre. Shane Black’s described Iron Man 3 as a Tom Clancy sort of political thriller, which I like a lot. We hired our directors on Cap because they loved our explanation that we really want to make a ’70s political thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie. I love that we’re doing a sequel to a film that’s a completely different genre than the first film. I think that’s fun. And the comics do it all the time.”
Variety recently caught up with Marvel movie head Kevin Feige to talk a little bit about his schedule, and working to get Phase Two off the ground. He was also asked about the whether or not he thought the superhero movie was just a fad. He said he didn’t believe that the genre is a fad, because each one is so different. He then compared the first Captain America movie to the next one, which is about to start shooting. “Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it,” Feige explained.
Actor Max Hernandez took to twitter to tease a return for Agent Sitwell. But is it for ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America: The Winter Soldier or something else? Sitwell was described as taking Agent Coulson’s place following his “death” in The Avengers but with Coulson’s return where does that leave his protege?
Stanley Tucci reminisced with Collider about his pivotal role in The First Avenger. Speaking on the Joe Johnston-directed film’s strong love story, the actor started, “Oh, it does [have one]. And Hayley Atwell, who I just had dinner with last night, we’ve become good friends. I really love that. I really love the relationship between the two of them.”
After being pressed whether Marvel has asked him to reprise his Abraham Erskine role the upcoming sequel,The Winter Soldier, Tucci let slip that his First Avenger co-star will indeed return, even though she’s said otherwise in previous interviews. “No, [the folks at Marvel] haven’t, unfortunately. I’m really sad. I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked.”
Atwell’s return isn’t too surprising considering the English actress said last week that we’d see Peggy Carter in some other context. Anyhow, looking back on his work in The First Avenger, Stanley Tucci added, “I loved making that movie. I had a great time. I really like Joe Johnston. I think he’s a wonderful director. I also love the look of the film, and the tone of the film, and the character was great. I was thrilled to be able to play that. I was so sad that I died because I wanted to come back and do another one. It was great to be offered this old, German scientist. I thought, “Oh, that’s great.” I couldn’t tell if I was really flattered or insulted. I don’t know.”
Coming off the news that Emily VanCamp has been cast as the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier we have more sobering news from two different sources.
First, actor Chris Evans was a guest on the Doug Loves Movies podcast and shared some interesting tidbits amidst all the hilarity. On The Winter Solider. Evans: I don’t have a script yet. We start shooting in two months and they haven’t given me a script. That’s how Marvel works. Different directors, it’s the Russo brothers. It makes perfect sense, Community, S.H.I.E.L.D. superhero action movie [Ed Note: Evans is joking here]
When asked about cameos from the other Avengers. Evans: Yeah, they’ll be some. That’s going to get me in trouble (with Marvel). Also, over on the casting site, aptly titled Feature Film Casting, there are reports that filming has been pushed back till June from an original start date of June. Keep this as a rumour for now as FFC has been about 50/50 in regards to the accuracy of their info. If this is true there could POSSIBLY be a change in the release date.

Television actress Emily VanCamp (Revenge) will play the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Deadline reports that VanCamp and Marvel Studios are currently in negotiations to secure her in the role of what is believed to be Sharon Carter, who in the comic books is the niece of Peggy Carter, a character previously played in Captain America: The First Avenger by Hayley Atwell.
It looks as if VanCamp beat out a LONG list of rumored candidates for the coveted role. Rumored to be up for the part at one time or another were Felicity Jones, Allison Brie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Emelia Clarke, Jessica Findlay Brown, Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots were all said to be up for the role. True to form, Marvel Studios has selected a candidate previously not on the purported casting radar. More details as we have them.
After portraying the S.H.I.E.L.D. Deputy Director in The Avengers last year, Cobie Smulders is expected to reprise the Maria Hill role in Captain America’s next venture. Recently, the actress discussed the sequel and, more interestingly, the definite possibility for her to appear in Joss Whedon’s TV adaptation of the agency.
About the script for The Winter Solider, Smulders reveals, “I’ve seen parts of it, but yeah I don’t know much. This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything. It’s very watermarked scripts, heavily watermarked,” she explained. “Yeah, they don’t let you know like the day of, but they are very secretive and I think they are still figuring stuff out. I don’t know the exact dates [filming begins]. I know it’s some time in March or June.” On whether Maria Hill could appear in Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. small-screen adaptation, Cobie Smulders declares,“The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it.” Even if those ‘definite talks’ fall through, the actress says she’s thrilled for the opportunities in the sequels to Captain America and The Avengers and beyond.“Oh yeah! I’m very excited. I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”
