Latest issue of SFX Magazine will feature an exclusive chat with Kevin Feige, in anticipation ofIron Man 3. Of course, Feige also discusses plans for other Phase Two films:
The Thor film and the Guardians Of The Galaxy film certainly are cosmic. Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space.
I think Iron Man 3 shows the other side of Phase 2, which is delving deeper into the characters. Throwing them on a much more personal journey.
And Captain America will showcase… What’s exciting to me about Cap – sort of about Iron Man 3 too if you look at it – is it’s tonally almost like a different genre. Shane Black’s described Iron Man 3 as a Tom Clancy sort of political thriller, which I like a lot. We hired our directors on Cap because they loved our explanation that we really want to make a ’70s political thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie. I love that we’re doing a sequel to a film that’s a completely different genre than the first film. I think that’s fun. And the comics do it all the time.”
Back in January, tie-in Iron Man 3 toys first revealed a “Deep Space Suit” that, later, added legitimacy to a report, via Latino Review, which spoiled what the films post-credits teaser will entail. Linking it to the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Spoiler Warning
According to Io9 and other sources, after the Chitauri attack,Tony Stark creates the “Space Suit” “using a unique new metal alloy that absorbs his ARC Reactor energy signature. Tony travels into the far reaches of space to find the source of a coded SOS he receives at the end of Iron Man 3. The SOS is from a masked Star-Lord, so Tony takes off to find him (noting that, with the space armor, he’s “ready this time”). Jarvis asks Tony where he’s going, replying, “I’ll be back.”
Considering it was previously reported that Tony Stark would also pop up during the Guardians of the Galaxy post-credits teaser, the above spoiler implies that Guardians will take place either before or concurrently with Iron Man 3 events on Marvel’s cinematic timeline.
Another Minor Spoiler Warning
What happens in Guardians of the Galaxy that’ll prompt Star-Lord to ask for Iron Man’s help, while also leading up to the 2015 follow-up to The Avengers? Who knows! An Io9 user speculates that Thanos is the source of distress and Star-lord is warning Stark that the Mad Titan is coming to Earth; and this is where The Avengers sequel begins.
Leaked Iron Man 3 Concept Art Featuring Hulkbuster Armor
The two suits shown are Tony Stark’s “Hulkbuster” armor from the comics and a suit of “Deep Space” armor. These might just be cool concepts drafted up MCU style, but not intended to be used in the film. However, if they are going to show up in the films, the art says a thing or two about what to expect from the plot.
MovieWeb notes that it’s been heavily rumored over the past month that we won’t be seeing the Hulk again until The Avengers 2. Given the “Hulkbuster” concept art, this might not end up being true, but I doubt we’ll be seeing Iron Man face off against Hulk.
Also, there have been rumors that Iron Man 3 ties directly into Guardians of the Galaxy, with Stark traveling into space to meet up with the intergalactic police force. The concept art lends that rumor some credence.
Speaking with Crave Online recently, Victoria Alonso, Marvel’s long-time Executive Vice President of visual effects, discussed The Avengers Best VFX Oscar nomination and teased forthcoming productions Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition, Alonso also commented on Thanos and the Mad Titan’s rumoured return in sequel.
When asked about Thanos, Victoria Alonso said,“Well, Thanos was mainly practical. There was a bit of prosthetic fixing that we had to do so it was not a CG character.” Whether their work on the Mad Titan was laying groundwork for the sequel, Alonso played coy: “I couldn’t tell you because we’re not working on Thanos, but for any character that is an all CG character like the Hulk, it took us, would you say 19 months? 20 months? So it’s almost a two year process from the modelling The modelling and the rigging took forever.”
About the James Gunn-directed space epicGuardians of the Galaxy and how Marvel will tackle Rocket Raccoon and Groot, Victoria Alonso continued, “We’re going to do it the best way possible. We are going to hopefully wow [you]. The beautiful thing about it is technology is always on our side, so we’re I would say very deeply into developing the look and hopefully some motion tests are happening so that we can figure out how they move, but I think that we will put all hands on deck to make sure the fans are proud of those two characters.”
The folks at Crave Online have seen footage fromThe Dark World, considering their next question asked if there are new effects for all the soldiers the God of Thunder was seen fighting. “There are a couple of CG characters there that I couldn’t reveal at the moment but very soon I will,” Alonso teased. “ I’m sure we’re going to see you soon, but there’s a lot of work in Thor because don’t forget, Thor is not of earth. So every time we’re into his world we’re in a completely different environment. [Malekith] is a real actor. He’s not a CG creation.”
Speaking about Iron Man 3 and whether there were any difficulties having the Armored Avenger in a new snowy surrounding, Alonso suggested, “No. Snow, sand, we’ve done him everywhere. We’ve done him up in the [air], we’ve done him in the ocean, we’ve done him in the sand dunes, we’ve done him in the snow, we’ve done him in the house. He’s a jet setter.” After being asked sharply how they’re doing the Mandarin’s ten rings, Victoria quipped, “Well, May 3rd we will show you.”
After licensedIron Man 3 toys by Hasbro & Funko revealed a strange Deep Space Suit (of armour ), speculation was bolstered that Marvel plans to have their armoured avenger (and most valuable asset) join the interstellar roster of their 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy space epic; akin to the ongoing Marvel NOW! series of the same name. In addition, posted earlier today was a Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. further alluding to the aforementioned idea. And it’s that very interview which has prompted Latino Review to unveil their latest scoop on the subject.
More than likely as early promotional efforts for Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s first non-sequel post-The Avengers, sources of the much-reliable Latino Review have revealed that (spoiler alert): At the end of Iron Man 3, Tony actually does go up into space to hook up with the Guardians of The Galaxy where I also hear he appears at the end of that movie as well.
If true, we now know the gist of two after-credits sequences from Marvel’s Phase Two slate. And considering they will eventually lead up to the The Avengers sequel, perhaps this is further confirmation that the Thanos, Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, of Guardians of the Galaxy, will all appear in the follow-up in 2015.
While talking with Movies.com he was asked if we can expect him in Guardians of The Galaxy after he gets done filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. “No, Cap 2, then nothing until The Avengers 2,” he explained. He went on to reiterate his desire to be in the latest Star Wars Trilogy as well.
For the rest of the interview where Jackson talks about the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, playing Nick Fury more like himself, as well as his favourite televisions shows right now head on over to Movies.com. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to start production in the Spring of next year.
There has been little news on the Guardians of The Galaxy movie lately, but now according to a new report, Marvel could be looking to Robert Downy Jr. to make an appearance in the film.
According to comicbook.com they have a source that says none other than Robert Downy Jr. will appear in the film as his popular Tony Star/Iron Man character. They ran a story a couple weeks back speculating after the Guardians of The Galaxy comic book cover was revealed at New York Comic Con that showed a character the looked suspiciously like Iron Man. It was later confirmed to be Iron Man and Comicbook.com’s source in now confirming that they were right about Iron Man appearing in the movie.
Now keep in mind this is NOT confirmed. To be honest, it seems a little far fetched. Right now Robert Downy Jr. is at the tail end of his contract with Marvel. So unless he signs another multipicture deal, it would seem very unlikely that they would use him in this capacity.
As of right now we only know a couple of concrete things about Guardians of The Galaxy. First being that is will be released on August 1st of 2014. The other is that James Gunn has been hired to directed it. We have seen some concept art that was reveled at San Diego Comic Con, however rumours suggest that the line up in the art may not be final.

The Guardians of the Galaxy concept art unveiled at this year’s San Diego Comic Con featured costume designs which closely resembled the well-known look of the team in the Marvel Universe. However, next February’s “Marvel NOW!” comic book series by All-New X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis features a complete redesign of each of the characters by artist Steve McNiven.
“I’m trying to re-design the whole team here,” the writer said of his approach to redesigning the team in a recent interview with Newsarama. “My approach to the designs was to match them to the characters and to update the look. Double-breasted jackets and outer space adventure don’t really fit these days.”
A lot of “Marvel NOW!” has seen the comic book costumes receive looks which are a little closer to the of the movies, and it appears as if there will be SOME similarities between the designs in this series and James Gunn’s big screen adaptation.
”I have been in touch with the movie studio guys and we are all tossing design ideas around, so hopefully we can have some unity between the movie and comic looks.”
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD I just hit a masterpost of new possible spoilers/rumours!
Roger Wardell, a twitter account that claims to have inside information on Marvel, has tweeted some more “info” today. While roger Wardell has been spot on on every single info he provided before, and has yet to be proven false, i would still suggest to take this info with a grain of salt until things get confirmed.
